Visa and Border Measures
Most travellers can enter Indonesia with a visa exemption (for short stays) or a Visa on Arrival (VoA) for tourism, valid for 30 days and extendable once. Check eligibility and apply online for an e-VoA if needed. Ensure your passport has at least six months’ validity and a return ticket.
Other Formalities
Upon arrival, you may need to complete a customs declaration. Some items, such as medications, may require permits. Ensure compliance with Indonesia’s strict drug laws.
Passport
Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival, with at least one blank page for entry stamps. Keep a copy of your passport in case of loss or theft.
Money
The local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). ATMs are widely available in cities, but cash is preferred in remote areas. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and large businesses. Currency exchange is available at airports, banks, and authorized money changers.
Local Travel
Indonesia has varied transport options, including taxis, ride-hailing apps, buses, trains, and ferries. In cities, apps like Gojek and Grab offer convenient transport. For inter-island travel, domestic flights and ferries are common. Always use official transport services and agree on fares in advance when taking taxis.
